LASALLE College of the Arts

LASALLE equips new VoIP-enabled campus with XMediusFAX® Enterprise

The Client

Based in Singapore, LASALLE College of the Arts is Asia-Pacific’s leading arts institution, offering the region’s widest range of high-quality degrees in design, art, media arts, music, theatre and dance. Its global links span over 40 cities, including the far-reaching creative practice and research work of its staff, students and alumni, as well as the international origins of its staff and student body.

Founded in 1984, LASALLE has the region’s only integrated arts campus that offers its students the exceptional benefit of interdisciplinary interaction and a holistic approach to learning in a world-class technology-enabled environment.

The Challenge

To outfit its new campus, LASALLE’s IT department faced many implementation challenges. They needed to consolidate and unify all data communications, including email and fax, with software that integrated seamlessly with their Cisco VoIP infrastructure, Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange Server,  Microsoft Office applications, as well as Macintosh-based Entourage email clients.

This initiative was in line with LASALLE’s overall IT strategy for a unified, integrated and paperless communications environment, which would provide faculty, staff and students with time-saving and productivity-enhancing tools.

The Solution

LASALLE evaluated various Macintosh-based fax server products, but decided on Sagem-Interstar’s PC-based and award-winning XMediusFAX Enterprise because of its:

  • Boardless, software-only integration with their Cisco VoIP infrastructure
  • Tight integration with Microsoft Active Directory
  • Ease of deployment and full support of Entourage email clients on Macintosh PCs
  • Ability to improve office and administrator productivity

The XMediusFAX solution was deployed and is supported in Singapore by Inok Systems Pte Ltd.

Results and Benefits

As well as more than satisfying LASALLE’s demanding requirements list, XMediusFAX really impressed IT Director Paul Lee during the system integration: “The implementation was smooth and we were able to get the system working under a tight deadline before our new campus opened.”

To underscore the elegance and simplicity of the XMediusFAX rollout, the employee training class took only one hour. And, thanks to XMediusFAX, users are delighted to be working in a unified-messaging environment. With faxes and emails now sharing the same inbox, the benefits of desktop faxing are obvious: effortless document-management tools, enhanced fax security and confidentiality, easy digital filing of documents, and no more walking back and forth to fax machines.

With XMediusFAX’s seamless integration with Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server and numerous email and end-user applications, LASALLE’S administrators are very pleased that they do not have to maintain a separate fax-user directory or perform client installs.

And because the software-only XMediusFAX T.38 solution does not require expensive fax boards or modems, dedicated phone lines or toners, LASALLE has saved money and resources while boosting productivity – an excellent start for their new campus!
